Hitch broke right at the weld point when I was backing up.. All bent out..not a good day..
Much better to break it when backing than when whizzing down the freeway at 75. Do you have a square receiver on the coach?
Yes square tube, it broke in a weird spot.. Newell gonna look and see why it broke there
that is a little scary

tom
I use a solid forged hitch to slip into the square receiver. Made by Reese & rated at 15,000 lbs.
I had what is called ,a trailer toad between the stacker and the hitch. Takes all of the tongue weight off of the hitch.. But when I was backing up somehow the weld let loose.. Newell said the hitch was rated at 18000 pounds.. The stacker is less than that and total tongue weight at the time this happened might have been 3-4 hundred pounds tops..
For what is worth ..looks like this has been cracked for a while as rust is evident, along with a cold weld with little penetration.. Not much comfort I know...
Ouch! Glad it wasn't on the road.
I'll be inspecting mine real good before we head out.
Another one of those things I worry about.....I'll be inspecting mine shortly.
I agree with Jimmy, most of the weld looks rusty and may have been cracked for a long time.
