Cleaning out some of my spare stuff. I used the Silverleaf system to monitor engine information and diagnostics. I connected it to a cheap Dell Inspiron duo (laptop with a flip screen) and it worked great. I monitored complete set of engine data and diagnostics running down the road.

Will it work on a 475hp 8V92TA DDEC-1? I have been having trouble finding Detroit Diesel dealers who can read the codes on my engine during the annual services or when I have a problem. In fact, I lived with a faulty timing sensor for about 5 years until I found a shop with a good DDEC code reader. It may be wise to put together an on-board capability.

Do you know whether the VMS would give me the codes, and what else it might give me?

Dick,
I would call silver leaf and ask them what codes could be read with ddec1.
i sent you an email, i might be able to help you if you need to read codes on a ddec1
