I had this idea in my Wanderlodge to put a BIG TV behind the couch on a lift that would lift up in front of the window.  Anyone know of a good lift system for a 55" LED (THIN) TV (about 40 lbs)?  I called Newell and they said the system they now use takes up 14" of space so I would have to push the couch out onto the slideout to make enough room for it.  I would like to find something that uses considerably less room behind the couch.
The Newell lift is not that wide. I suspect they were telling you what the entire box (with lift and TV inside) would measure.

Although the newer TVs are lighter, you will have to contend with the amount of torque that a fully extended lift can apply to the floor. Newell's lift is expensive and has about a five inch plate that is screwed into the floor. Once fully extended, it will easily flex the floor where it is screwed down.

I would look for something that would mount to the wall.

Cheers,

I question if it is a good idea the view a 55" TV from only a few feet away. Seem too close for normal TV watching. Just an eye full of pixels.
I agree with Chester,
I have an 80 inch Vizio here at home. The closer I get the worse the picture is
6.9-11.5' is the recommended viewing distance for a 55" HD TV at 1080p. That distance increases to 10-20' at 720p. For standard definition (480) anything closer than 20' is going to result in seeing the pixels on a 55" TV. Typical rule of thumb for HD TV is a minimum of about 1.5 times the diameter of the screen (hence the 6.9' for a 55") however, THX recommends for watching movies and being "immersed" a 40 degree field of vision for the TV is appropriate which would be about 5.5'-8' for a 55" HDTV.

If you go up to a 4KUltra TV (and assuming there was 4KUltra programming available) you could be in the 3.8-7.0' minimum distance for a 55" HDTV. I find that about 10.5' seems to the sweet spot for an 80" HDTV.
For what its worth....I have a 55" in my coach on a lift right across from the sofa. My opinion is that it is as close to perfect as I can imagine. The TV is a high end Samsung (8000 series) and the viewing experience is fantastic. Of course, as I get older the ability for me to see pixels seems to diminish!

My coach has a 30" slide on TV side and 24" slide on sofa side. I would say TV is 10" in so...20+12+68 = 100" from viewer to TV.

Bill, how much would your TV setup push the couch out please?  Any idea which lift you have and where I could get one?  I like the idea of attaching the lift to the wall behind the couch.  We have a single slide in the living room so would be at least 10" or so closer...  I have a nice 42" LED Samsung now but was hoping to use this as an excuse to upgrade (so lie to me if you must but don't tell the wifey... ) :-)
This is the lift I am considering (I think it will mount to the floor or the wall):

Newell put mine in so I don't know the manufacturer..but will look for a plate or other information. Im guessing that my setup with the box to hold the TV is at least 12 inches. The size of the box may be the limiting factor. I will try to post pics later today.
I would not want the couch to come any further out o. My 2 slide coach

Are you planning on doing this yourself?  If not jt is gonna be pretty pricey
