Anyone know where the voltage regulator (penntex) is located on this coach?
I have looked everywhere, called Penntex, called Newell...
Lift the rear engine hatch, on the right (passenger side) there is a polished stainless door. Open that and the regulator should be mounted in there along with the battery isolator, etc.
Adrian.

That is correct for location. A word of caution. Newell doesn't wire the regulator like the schematic on the penntex site. I never figured out what they did, only that wires dead ended in the harness.
Thanks I found it but it's made by another company. The alternator is dead so what should I get? The distributors are all little alternator shops so probably won't have it.
Adrian,
Have you determined whether it is the voltage regulator or the alternator itself?  If not you might want to read this thread.

have you check the grounds ? I would also check to see you are getting 12v, when you turn on the ignition . Just some thoughts , good luck .
I thought about the grounds this morning at about 3am. Will pull the terminals off and clean/check them today. We did check 12v at ignition. I took the coach to the local Freightliner dealer here in Beaumont, TX and after much delay they sent a 12-year old technician out to look at the coach - he checked what he could for an hour and then finally called in the older electrician/tech. They checked the 12v with ignition and were very puzzled by the separate regulator. We did manage to jumper the regulator (blue and orange wire as I recall) and determined that the alternator was bad. After 6 hours sitting in the parking lot they gave me a nice bill of $400 (but I bought 3 fuel filters also)... they charge $165/hour for RVs! Lesson learned: ask what their rate is before pulling in to the shop to let the technicians guess as to the cause of your problems... now the microwave is dead... will be call Newell this morning...
That is why we try to always just go to Newell. The 3-4 hrs shop time for others to guess & scratch their heads pays for the fuel burn to get to Miami & have it done quickly & right. Sometimes though it is just not possible to make the trip. Usually those times just make us wish we had!
There is an excellent diagnostic tool on then penntex website
I talked to Roy at Penntex yesterday and he is the guy you want to talk to there!
He was extremely helpful and took a lot of time explaining things to me concerning the alternator and regulator setup.  Below are my notes:
The Slides use the START/Chassis batteries to do their business, the alternator needs to be producing 14amps to push them out!  My amp guage is dead on the dash (maybe it is because my alternator is dead?)
I have a PX35-285 alternator and a Lestec (out of business) regulator.
        Penntex alternator (Talk to ROY!)
*** Pierce Fire Truck uses these!  PX3S-285  so they are readily available and rebuildable
Some Alternator distributors can rebuild and diagnose problems others are only distributors (have to ask)
Pearland Alternator - they can drop ship it: 800-966-6672 Alternator: $1004  Regulator: $132.72  (they can diagnose on bench only and rebuild or replace
Newell had a replacement for this about the same price...
DFW distributor:  BCTruck Electric service (Irving): 866-434-2782
Check on rebuild/repair:  This alternator CAN be rebuilt (forgot to ask how much)
When talking to rebuild shop tell them it is similar to Leese-Neville 2500 - 2800 JB series (frame style and build style are similar)
This one puts out 170?amps at 500RPM (most put out much less)
Lestec Regulator (out of business since 2004)
Pentex PX-4000 regulator - check pricing  $
Pearland Alternator suggested a possible replacement: PrestoLite- prestolite.com Leese-Neville 8 to 4900 Number: 4867JB  this one has the regulator and voltage check built in...
TESTS: http://penntexusa.com/Charging_Tests.pdf
I plan to run the tests this morning and hopefully get it charging again.
