Gang,

I am at Newell and have figured out that one of my ABS sensors is bad.  Actually a wrong one got installed a while ago, but that is another story.

I am looking for a source for an ABS sensor for my tag axle.

Newell is able to source the ABS sensors that fit the ZF axle, but cannot find sensors for the Dana axle.  Both sensors are very closely related and the only difference is a collar at the top of the sensor on the ZF that will not allow it to get close to the tone ring.  (See photo).  The top one is for the ZF axle  and the bottom one is for a Dana axle.

The WABCO part number is 441 032 922 0

The Dana kit which includes the entire ABS system is SM483/16K.

Dana does not thru-sell the WABCO part...and apparently WABCO is in India.

Has anyone sourced one of these sensors?

Cheers,
bill
Is it possible to countersink the hole in the housing in order to use the ZF sensor?
I have not checked into that....I was thinking that a person could shave down the collar on the ZF and that would allow it to slide in and contact the tone ring.

I have been researching and it looks like these ABS sensors are really dumb analog devices. I have found some identical looking devices...and will probably order one to see if it will work.
Are you spending the weekend in Miami to hit the clubs or are you headed home?
I'm here until they put my room back together. The ceilings in my vintage coach are very interesting / complex and it will be fun to see how it goes back together!

I ordered a generic 65mm ABS sensor that looks identical to the correct one. Should be here next week.
Just to add to this thread....

The two sensors pictured in the first post are called "65mm sensor" and "73mm sensor". The longer of the two are what are used in the newer ZF axles. The 65 is used for older coaches equipped with ABS.

I will let you guys know if the one on order actually works....but it seems as if these are really generic devices. The same physical units show up all over the place with different part numbers. (One part number for Meritor, one part number for Dana, one part number for WABCO....

Time will tell.
Gang,

The ABS sensor that I ordered came in and seems to be an exact match to what we need.

It is a HOLSTEIN 2ABS1302 ABS Sensor.

I found it for $23.72 + shipping on finditparts.com.  It even came with the sleeve and grease!

I added a picture of the sensor installed in contact with the tone ring.  The teeth in the ring create an analog signal that the sensor reads to determine the speed of the wheel.  With the ZF sensors there was a 1/4" gap between the sensor and the ring....now the sensor is nice and snug and will get pushed out a hair when the wheel turns.

I will report back once it is service and working.

Cheers,
bill
Hmmmmm, and it even says WABCO on the package. Go figure. Good detective work.
My 2001 does not have ABS on the tags. Costs me two tires every time I have an emergency stop. Just wishing.
Chester,

No doubt your tags lock up in a panic. You have the proof. Next time we're together, let me look under and see what you have for sensors and ABS modules.
