Hello All,

Took the bus into the shop to get the airbags, shocks, valves etc replaced and when they took the wheels off the steer axle they found that the brake disks are cracked and the pads are almost gone.... got the call a few hours ago....

I have to find 2 brake rotors, set of front pads and 2 tierod ends ASAP. I have a solid axle upfront not IFS.

The brakes seems to be Knorr Bremse and Bendix is part of the group now.

Does anybody have the part numbers for these parts ?
surface cracks are ok. only cracks that go from edge to edge need rotor replacing from my perspective

When I bought 567, the rear calipers were frozen to the pins and would not move plus, the pads were about gone.  I checked prices and found that Belgium Truck Technology was the Knorr Bremse supplier in europe where most all trucks have disc brakes.  Checking prices (ten years ago) the Bendix US suppliers were far higher than BTT even with the freight overseas.

Here is their contact info:  Belgium Truck Technology

They will need the exact number from the caliper or pads, they won't guess what you have and have never heard of Newell..  If you pay with credit card, be sure  the currency is belgium, not USD.  Shipping is best from DHL.

Hope this helps
Thank you. Will look into that avenue.
my bus guy just has all this on his shelf. i have a hard time thinking you have to order it from europe.

i would think your mechanic would be able to chase it down

Well...looking for correct part numbers Knorr Bremse and/or Bendix equivalent for this 97 to order the correct stuff.
Newell has 2 brake disks in stock but won't give out the OEM part #. Want $450 for one. The shop says that is about double what they should cost.
Also the brake pads (Meritor) should be around $200...Newell wants $480 ...
Same story with the Ridewell solid axle tierod ends...need to find the part numbers to know what we are looking for. Newell won't give out any P/N's
The research continues....

Quick question to the gurus....the disk rotor that has a crack is on the driver side position. The passenger side looks fine, has some wear but nothing terrible....just old.
The shop of course says I should change them both...3 hrs labor at 145 plus $400 for the rotor per side...sure why not....not their money....but is it necessary if there are no issues there ? Will put new brake pads on both wheels, new disk on the left, keep the original o the right...is that a no-no ?

I was told that the tag axle bags on a 97 should be W01-358-8992......well they are not......ordered 2, and the 8992's are about half the size of what is on the bus. Have to take an old one off and figure out what it is then get the correct bags....look as big as the ones on the drive axle which are 9447's.

Fun, fun, fun....
rotors should not be 400 each. more like 200-250. and pads more like 125 or less. as for me, i always do them in pairs. and i think most shops will say the same thing.

steve magown, have you changed your fronts and have part numbers? from watching my guy he surely wasnt 3 hours per side. and he did the drive axle. just reference for you

tom
My personal preference is to keep both sides the same to minimize uneven braking. But, I do my own work so I can see what is really needed & the bill doesn't hurt as bad.

Who ever said "it's only money, you can't take it with you" must have been trying to explain how to get your coach out of the repair shop. . . .

I had to do quite a bit of research online to identify the steering knuckle I needed. Once I determined the required part number, " finditparts.com " had the best price.
If you have a "Fleetpride' truck parts  store in you area, we found that they were able to replace the brake parts of our almost antique Newell just by eyeballing the box of parts we brought to them. This even included inside rear axle seals. Very reasonable prices, and all parts were in stock and  correct.

Your coach being more current would have a better chance of in stock parts.

Good luck,

Guy
I agree on fleet pride. I bought pads 3 months ago and did them myself. Tom does have the correct part numbers for the pads. I may have posted them on here on an earlier thread too
