Full Version: Scare tactic?

I was visiting an RV dealer, yesterday, and I mentioned that a used Newell or Prevost was on my radar. He said that I should be concerned about electrical issues as "those are so complex, they can be a nightmare." Having spent a fair amount of time on this forum, I would conclude that there are NOT pervasive electrical issue with Newells, but I figured that I'd float the question out there for input. I understand that any coach can have a problem, but I felt that such a blanket statement was more of a sales scare tactic to steer me towards his product.
i have not heard of a single electrical issue that isnt from normal use. the only thing that all will agree with is the lack of wiring schematics on our newells makes it harder to trace things, but not impossible.

I was recently parked next to a new Tiffin Allegro Bus, their very best. It had twenty (20) pages of warranty repairs. He was still paying the morgage while it lived in the shop, not in their use.

There are many more reasons to deal with a used Newell vs very many other brands of any vintage.
While it is true that there is more wiring when there are more "systems" the quality of the wiring in a Newell is SO much better than what I've seen on other coaches. Recently we were parked at a campground next to a 3 year old $350,000+ MH. The central vac had malfunctioned. While helping my neighbor trouble shoot I was appalled at the shoddy job on the primary signal wire for the vac. Also there were cheap 115V receptacles with spray foam around them for isolation in the storage bay.

Rudy, I recall you writing at some point that the Aqua Hot integration in Newell was the best (or as good as...don't mean to misquote you) you've seen. That statement really stuck with me as a validation of their systems integration, in general.

Newell had Aqua Hot build a special heater just for them since the first install. No other coach has this heater till a few years ago when the new owners of AH came out with the AHE 675 D. That heater is the Newell heater without tank temp sensor, so not really the Newell heater of old.

I agree with the above comment of poor quality of workmanship in new coaches costing many 100s of thousands of dollars.

You may be dealing with the situation of you do not know what you do not know. For instance, list the coaches that are crash worthy, your car is crash worthy for instance. Very many are not but Newell is. Ask you state police officer how many motorhome crashes he has been to in which the motorhome did not come apart.
If you can use a volt meter you can fix any electrical issue on a pre spyderwire newell
They may look complicated but once you start digging into an issue it starts to make sense how Newell does things. It just takes patience once you get over the overwhelmed feeling. This was on my dads coach #730.
