My coach is filled with Southco C3 latches of various pull strengths.

Most of male sides of the latches (called "grabbers," as I learned today) are a special "light duty" style that is thinner, presumably for clearance reasons.  But what this means is that we can't just buy regular C3 latch/grabber pairs on Amazon, because the replacement grabber is too thick and won't fit.

Has anyone sourced these light duty grabbers?

I'm working on hunting down options with Southco, and obviously I can pay Newell 5x for the same piece.  Just curious if anyone else already has a source for these, though.
I just buy the amazon ones and replace both pieces. Same hole pattern.

What I keep finding is that the thicker ones on Amazon won't fit in the places where my dying ones are.  They leave the door proud of the adjacent door, or the drawer sticking out, or the freezer drawer won't close at all.  Etc.

Maybe I am unlucky.
Could you use a wood chisel to recess the latch more?

In some places I could, yeah.  It would be messy and leave an unfinished area afterwards, but it could be done.

In other places, the latch is screwed into a piece of metal (like an appliance or an appliance mounting bracket) and that isn't an option.

It's weird that these are so hard to get.  Almost like Newell is the only one using them.
I find that a 1/4 drive miniature ratchet handle with a small phillips bit to be the trick in working on those hard to access latches.
Nebster,
I did source some latches with the 5lb grabber, which is the smaller ones.  They are what I have always used.  RV Designer part #H315.  I found them on EBAY here..................................................

Hey, very cool!  I didn't realize the 5lb ones came with the smaller grabbers.  Fantastic, I can source the 5lb ones from a variety of places I think.

And, for what it's worth in case someone reads this one day, there seems to be no problem using the 5lb grabbers (which are skinnier) with the 10lb or 20lb catches.

Hmm, well, now I've looked at various others selling the "h315" model number, and all of their pictures look like the thicker grabber that won't work for me. I don't know if this one ebay vendor just has a different underlying SKU, or if the other guys just have the wrong picture, or what.

I guess I'll just have to order some and see what happens. Smile
I called the vendor I gave you and was assured these were the smaller grabber ones.  The H315 used to include 1 latch and a 10 lb grabber and a 5 lb grabber.

Thanks for doing the leg work. Smile

It's annoying that Southco or a distributor can't just put these things online easily.  I never thought to scour ebay listing photography, though.  Good find.
