Hi all!

Not sure where to ask this question so I put it here.  I am getting ready to purchase my first coach and in NYS you need an “R” endorsement on your license to drive an RV over 40’ and over 26,000lbs.  Applying for it and getting the learners permit is easy, only a written test.  However, a driving test is required and you must have someone’s who already has the endorsement with you.

Does anyone live in New York and have this endorsement?  Or any information on how to go about getting this endorsement on my license?

Perhaps they allow you to have someone be with you with a license above an beyond an R endorsement, such as a CDL ? I don't know, just a thought.

Appreciate the thought. Seem to remember the person at dmv that it had to be the same type license but it is worth a call.

So after a couple more calls to NYS DMV, including my very small local office, who advised me that someone with a cdl B or better could also be the escort for the road test.
