Some one asked me when Newell built their first 45 foot unit. So does any one know? I guessed the early 90s.
I bet Michael knows

Tom
This is the oldest 45 footer I have found. Not sure it is the first.

Although #217 was listed as a 45', the VIN shows it was 42'0" long. I have seen MANY Newells that were advertised as being significantly longer or shorter than they actually were. Most manufacturers have listed coaches as a certain length in their catalogs even when the specs show them to be 1-1/2 to 2 feet longer or shorter than the 'Model number". I have confirmed a 1991, #252, that was 44' 9" long as were several 1992 units (#283, 293 and I believe 307 although I had a typo in the VIN for that coach). By 1993, several 45'0" coaches were made, including #316 and #322. So it certainly was early 1990's with a likelihood that a TRUE 45'0" coach may not have shown up until early 1993 models. If you consider 44'9" a 45' then definitely by 1991 those were being produced with the potential of a 1990 being made in 44'9".
Hmmm , I wonder if 316 was the first 45'....If so I'm the lucky owner!!!!!!
Yeah, I show that 316 was yours Dean.
Thanks Michael for the info. I find this historical stuff interesting.
Now that I have virtually ALL of the VIN numbers for 1990 and newer Newells which contain the length, I have now verified that the first 45' 0" Newell was #305, a 1992.

Dean, #316 was the second Newell built that was 45' 0".
