On my 99, what is the fuel tank capacity? Also I have not been able to find my fresh water or waste water capacity in the manuels I received with the coach. Chappell
Chappell, I believe the 1999 and 2001 coaches have the same tanks. Fuel is 270 gallons and water 160. The waste tank matches the fresh water tank.
Call Tommy Keyes at Newell. He pulled up the schematics on my '98 and found my tank capacities.
Thanks all. I will call tomorrow. Chappell
I have a 1999, unit #516. I was told I had a 270 gallon tank and that the genny would stop drawing fuel when the tank got down to 20 or 25%. To my surprise both of these were wrong. I was on a return trip from Alberta, Cananda and had stopped in Billings, MT. My wife wanted me to fill up with fuel, but I had calculated my fuel using the ProDriver since I didn't think the fuel gauge was reading right. I told her we had over 140 gallon left, and at 8 MPG I could make well over 800 miles. But this only works if you have a 270 gallon tank. I made it to about 30 miles north of Casper, WY. when the engine stopped and I coasted to the side of the road. I had been running the ginny for the A/C, it stopped in a short time after the big engine had stopped. Not knowing what is wrong I called the Mother Ship and they said I may be out of fuel, and I said no way. But they talked me in to running a tape measure into the tank. After it hit nothing but metal and come out dry, I believed them, so I unhooked the toad and drive the 30 miles to Casper where I buy 6, 5 gallon cans at WalMart, and fill them with fuel. Now back the 30 miles. You can't pour out of the 5 gallon cans into the top of the tank, so I fill a gallon water bottle and pour in. Now this takes some time to do and it starts to rain, so I had to stop till it eased up a bit. Next you need to prime the engine, by removing the cap from the top of the fuel filter and filling with fuel. You can start the engine from this compartment by using the emergency
starter. I got it running but it took most  of the fuel from the filter, so I turned it off. I did this 3 times before I filled it and replaced the cap. This time I had a lot of bubbles but it filled up and kept on running and I'm off the 30 miles to Casper where I filled up with 168 gallons. I also don't have the 20% safety for the ginny. Any comments?
Bob,

Based on the external measurements of the tank in our 99, Coach 512, I calculate the fuel capacity somewhere around 190 to 200 gallons.

270 could not possibly be correct for my tank.

Also, my gauge, and the VMSPc useage would agree with a tank size of approximately 200 gallons.

To do the measurement calc. Ht x wd x length in inches. I subtracted 1/2 inch from each measurement to allow for a 1/4 thick wall. 1 cubic inch = 0.004329 gallons. So multiply the ht by wd by length by 0.004329 to get a pretty close estimate of the capacity of the fuel tank.

This would also work for waste and fresh water tanks.
First of all, I would never get 8 MPG traveling in Canada and Montana, not even on a straight highway, and more like 6.5 pulling a car at 65 MPH. Since May to date, I have averaged 6.4 MPG based on the engine computer which includes idle time resulting in an average speed of 45.9 MPH. I run with Silverleaf connected to my engine computer and it repeatedly verifies the tank capacity of 286 gallons within a few gallons one way or the other.
Hey Chester,
When I changed the trip meter on the Pro Driver I had 2766 miles and had avg. 7.9 mpg. I wasn't in mountains very much. I try to drive 60 to 62. I tow a Saturn wagon. Once before my AquaHot failed to come on, so I drove 2 blocks and only put in 170 gallons. I'll call Newell Monday and see what they say about the size of the tank.
When I first purchased my Newell, I measured the tanks and used calculations that Richard has provided to determine the capacity of each of the tanks. On a later visit to Newell, I got a copy of the floorplan which listed the dimensions and capacity of each of the tanks.
I measured the tank the best I could, my best guess is 27X27X60. That would it 189 gallons. That is if you fill it up till it runs out from the spout. I had to guess the length at 60 inches.  My batteries are at the end of the fuel tank on old 516. What are the size of the tanks that hold 270 gallons?
