1988 Newell 40' - whatsnewell - 02-23-2014

Came across a 1988 Newell on Craigslist today. Talked with Randy for about 20 minutes. Coach has been kept indoors for over 15 years.....a two owner coach. Tires are two years old, and has all new 8D batteries. 127,000....in frame rebuild of the DD 8V92 40,000 miles ago.

It is located down near San Diego in the Pauma Valley area.....not far from us.

Wow very nice. Interior would be easy to modernize and update. Not many miles to have a rebuild though right? Did he say what happened Clarke?

doubt if it really has 600 hp
my previous coach had the 8v92 and was 475 hp
does look nice, however

I agree with Ernie.

Yeah, I noticed the 600 horsepower thing, too....think it's probably a typo....didn't ask about that, or the rebuild....I should have asked why it had an in frame rebuild....I'll call him today and ask.

RE: 1988 Newell 40' - encantotom - 02-24-2014

i will bet it overheated. almost all of them that is the cause other than the occasional catastrophic failue. (yea like yours todd)

Ya that's why I want to learn what happened so I can stay away from whatever did his engine in. I am always paranoid now of overheating. Say speaking of overhauls how did that couple ever come out that broke down in Montana and had to get a rebuild in Billings? Did they get back on the road ok Clarke?

RE: 1988 Newell 40' - whatsnewell - 02-26-2014

Todd, Chris and Cherie spent about one month in Billings having their engine rebuilt. The total cost came to just under $30,000, but that included a number of modifications and upgrades. We hooked up with them in Polson, MT when we were there, and they have since made their way back to Florida where they are right now.
