the pictures sure looked great.

i didnt realize they put any 6v71's in. the 6v92 was going strong by then. i assume the 6v71 is not turbocharged?

I only have records of 6 1979 Newells. One has the CAT 3208, this one was listed with a 6V72, one did not list the specific engine and the other 3 had 6V92's.

RE: 1979 36' Sequence Number 06 - MrE - 01-20-2015

I've never seen a 6V71 as an original motor for a Newell but it is possible, they came out with the 92 series in 1974 but Newell wasn't bleeding edge for adopting new technology. The Series 60 came out in 1987 and Newell didn't start using them for 7 years.

My guess is a misprint, its probably a 6v92, either a repower silver or a leaker.

My 79 had a Cummins 555 V-8. Repowering with 6V92 and need to know what rear end I have, to change ratio. There are no tags left on my axle. Anyone with a Axle Model. Anyone with that vintage who knows what axle was used would be a great help. Thanks Pete

Check with @Retro, his came with the Cummins 555 V8. He may have changed the ratio when he put in the Cummins 8.3 I6.

Pete,

Since no two Newells are alike, I would not trust info taken from another coach. I would jack up the drives and turn them to figure out the ratio in the pumpkin.

RE: 1979 36' Sequence Number 06 - rooster - 01-26-2017

The present rear ratio is to low. The Cummins turns up more than the Detroit. I am seeking a set of 3:55s for the change, but must determine what rear I have. There are no tags left on the axle to help me. Assume it to be a Rockwell SQ but don't want to get wrong ring and pinion set. Was hoping to find someone with a 79 who might be able to read the tag on the rear axle. Thanks for the help. With the current rear it will not reach 50 MPH at 2000 rpm so obviously this will not due.
