Voltage down to 13 - lbrachfe - 07-05-2015

How do I adjust a Delco Remy 19020413 ?? No visible signs of anything on it except the permanent diagram decal that indicates in a diagram "to increase voltage turn clockwise" with an arrow.

Seems like my year old merge switch is in need of replacement as it works for indiscriminate periods and then not.

What do want to adjust to? 12.6 is considered a full charge - so I thought.

13.7 to 13.9 is what a voltage regulator usually runs.

Just curious, why do you think it needs adjusting?

Just a word of caution when you buy your merge contactor (sometimes called a solenoid).  Make sure it is rated for continuous duty NOT intermittent and at least 150 Amp, higher is always better.

I thought it need adjustment because after sitting for a few months I found that I am at 12.9 to 13.1 and was previously at 13.8 for 4 years. Tom had a post awhile back that I cannot find about adjusting the Delco Remy voltage and I recall hearing something about it years ago being adjustable. There is only the diagram decal I posted about. I replaced the 'Merge" about a year ago and do have the old one which was working fine when suggested at Newell to replace due to it's age. This newer one is working for short periods and long periods, but never the same.

larry, i did adjust mine and it worked fine on this last trip.

mine was running 12.9 to low 13's.

i think yours should be the same as mine. mine has a hex set screw in the middle at the top of the front. if you remove that set screw you can see the adjustment screw underneath to adjust the voltage output. very very small adjustments move it. and it swings for a while.

mine ran right at high 13's this last 2kmile run

Are you talking about thee teenie flat screw head covered with red stuff and has a smaller label with two rows of short numbers, because that's all I got ? Do I shut anything off when doing this ? Should the engine be running ? Thanks Tom

Thanks Gordon !

larry, later i will take a picture of mine so you can see.

Here are a couple of links:

This one is 85A and is pretty much the exact replacement.

Since we are merging 2- 8D's with 6 -8D's the propensity of higher current is likely, I would use this link.  It requires a rearrangement of the power leads but since there is quite a bit of room (at least on my Newell) it should be no problem.  This one is rated 100A.

There is one with a higher current:  http://www.colehersee.com/home/item/cat/169/24812/

These should be available about anywhere but if you encounter difficulty , let me know .
