6V92 Alternator - prairieschooner - 11-01-2015

Our 1982 Newell with a 6V92 has a Leece-Neville model 3425J Alternator. The Alternator was been rebuilt in 2010 at a cost of $425.00. It required a new Stator, Rotor and Regulator due partially to a previous repair shop loosing some parts.
It is best to have a Leese-Neville Dealer do the rebuild because these are no longer in production. The 6V92 (and possibly the 8V92 uses this Marine Grade Gear Driven Alternator.
I am making this post for future reference.
Replacement Viton Seal from Detroit Diesel #23508977, and get a Flange Gasket #23509123.

Thank you for the information Steve.....I think I will have mine rebuilt when I get back to SoCal later this month. Who did you use? I seem to remember you found a good guy to do it.

I think that I used Wayne's Electric in Long Beach, CA. Be very careful not to try and save a couple bucks and go somewhere that doesn't have an inventory of spares! Since this is Military/Marine Grade I went to the Port of LA and found the guys that have been doing these since they were new and abundant.
