Thsi is the contact info to Mike from Yakim, WA who specialize in shocks, I replaced few days ago all my struts and they are awesome !

For my narrow bay ( 24"x36" ) I used 130lbs and they are way plenty than 150lbs , you still have to help stop them on the way out!

Here is the info:

we stock over 3000 struts from 7.5 inch to 36 inch .... 10lb to 350lb and can get any strut that may be needed (we add 3 or 4 sizes / pressures to inventory per month as well)

Does anyone know what struts (4) fit the large rear engine door on a 1995? They are 28" long (center to center) fully extended.

Bill, congratulations on owning the first 45'8" Newell ever produced. #442, a 1997, was the next 45' 8" Newell.

Thanks Michael. I noticed in the build sheet it stated 8" rear overhang extension but I didn't know it was the first. Is the rear cap 8" longer only or is the wheelbase longer too? I guess the interior also has 8" more length?

Based on the build sheet comment, it sounds like the frame was extended 8" longer behind the wheels. Looking at photos of 45' Newells built about the same time, it does appear that the rear overhang is longer. I have not seen a floorplan for 398 but I am certain that the interior would be 8" longer also.

Anyone know the strength of gas struts for rear engine door? Mine are 28" long extended but I can't find any model or part numbers on them.

I'm surprised no one with a similar year coach chimed in.  If yours are the same as mine, these will fit.  The specs are provided for you to verify.

today a buddy and i changed the rear engine hatch struts.  all 4 of them.  i recently bought coach 526 a 99 41' 6" long 2 slide. a rear shorter newell.   yea i know i already have a 2002. i know it is a sickness......

i will be slowly detailing, fixing and servicing things on it and then will eventually put it here on the forum for sale.  it is beautiful inside and has less than 100k miles on it and 600ish hours on the genny.

but that said, we used a ratchet strap to compress the old ones to take them off and to put on the new ones.  the old ones wouldnt hold up the hatch.

here is a picture of using the ratchet strap
