Michael, this coach I've asked for photos showing things that are important to condition and things look good - what is your take on a 2000 in terms of quality ? First year of new frontal treatment, 2001-2003 being exceptionally good years (or so I hear)  ... I'm trying to get over the raised roof bit though Smile. Thoughts would be helpful ... it has what I'm looking for ...

what do you mean by getting over the raised roof?

the idea that only the back part is raised?

I have not heard of any special issues with the 2000 model year Newells. I hope anyone with additional input would chime in.

FYI, the new frontal treatment can be added to any Newell from 1990-1999 and #538, the last 1999 model was actually the first Newell to use the 'smiley' front cap. Model year 2000 also saw the beginning of the transition from the manual entry door to the Bode air operated entry door (now electric operated on the p50) with at least 6 built during the model year.

I am sure he is referring to Hastings Humpy.

Yes, Tom - I guess I prefer the straight lines ... not sure. Not sure I need to be too picky either Smile. This coming week I'm getting ready to travel and look at stuff. I'm trying to fend off my neighbor who keeps prodding "Prevost" Smile.

my 2002 has the raised roof from about 5 feet from the front all the way to the back. so my "hump" starts very close to the front. i have nearly a 7 1/2 ft ceiling for most of the coach except where the ceiling treatments in the front part of the salon lowers it about 6 inches.

the rear bath is lower by about 6" as well since the floor is higher going into the bathroom because of the engine.

i am 6' 2" and i really like the extra height. i have basement air's as well so the ceiling is not lowered to account for the ductwork in the ceiling.

i think the humps look cool.

My coach has the rear bump. I also like the headroom, the extra height allows for the ceiling fan and the unusual roof line gets a lot of attention. Given the choice of flat or hump, I'll take the hump because it is unique and different.

RE: #544 2000 Model - 3Rs - 08-01-2016

My coach has a "flat" roof and we have a ceiling fan in the bedroom.  I believe the original owner said he had it built with 6 inches of extra clearance.  Looking at the detail on other "raised roof" coaches, I'm not sure what is normal.  Can anyone elaborate on the roof heights?   At closer inspection, I doubt my roof is raised, but I do have a ceiling fan - works just fine.

"Raised roof" is one of the options listed on my 1993 Newell
