New owners of #443 - NeBob - 11-25-2016

We just purchased #443 and we have it stored in a heated shop on shore power. Can anyone tell us if the inverter automatically charges the batteries when plugged in?

Thank you for your help and we have enjoyed this site for many months.

You most likely have a combination charger/converter/inverter, and the charger portion of that unit will automatically charge your batteries when plugged into shore power.

As Clark said most likely on the house batteries. May or may not charge the engine batteries, no two newells leave the factory alike, and who knows what subsequent owners have done.

Check the battery voltage before and after connecting to shore power - if no change, no charge.

For what it is worth, my 87 came with a charger/ converter. It also has a merge switch on the dash that connects house and chassis batteries. My batteries seem to like it best when I leave them merged all the time.

I never leave my merge switch on. It is a good way to wind up with all batteries dead, which I have done without realizing my merge switch was on. The engine battery isolater (sp?) keeps everything charged while traveling.

Yep, I forgot to add that I do not have to merge my batteries in order for my charger to charge both house and chassis batteries, others do.

Could not find a Merge switch could it be labeled as something else?
There is a Sure start switch. Is it possible that would merge house and engine batteries to assist starting?

RE: New owners of #443 - Richard - 11-28-2016

Yes. I am guessing that is the Merge switch.

Is your switch momentary, or does it click up and down?
