Aquahot plenum 12v blower motor - smagown - 12-21-2012

My 12v blower motor for my front plenum is seized up.It's located in the first bay behind the front wheels. The box is made of aluminum and plastic with rivets and aluminum sealing tape. Looks like I have to drill the rivets to access the dual squirrel cage fan motor. Does anyone know the model of the motor? I think Russ said he has done this if I recall correctly.
Thanks,

Hi Steve,

Yes, I have been there and done that. I will dig up the information and some pictures and post in a followup message just as soon as possible. Getting the blower back together, as I reacall, was the most challenging. Be sure you look at it carefully and take pictures before disassembly. russ

[/i]Steve,

Steve Bare also has done this job and was a big help when it was my turn. I am sure he will chime in with some suggestions too.

Below is a link to where I purchased my replacement motor. It came to me as a three speed motor and the Newell was only wired for two speeds. I think I decided to forgo high speed, and used low and middle speed.

Hope this gets you started.

Steve,
Here is a copy of an email that I sent to Russ White that may be helpful.

Once on the bench the motor is easily changed. It appears the case splits into two halves, but you don't need to--nor was I able. Remove the case screws on the blower side. This will allow you to slide the wiring out when you remove the motor. The motor has a stem above & below with a squirrel cage attached. The cages are loosened by loosening the set screw on both. Now slide the lower squirrel cage off the motor stem and out of the case. Now slide the motor out of the case while leaving the top squirrel cage in the case and working the wiring out. Reverse the process for the new motor installation. Make sure the squirrel cages do not rub the case once the new motor is installed.

If you can't figure it out feel free to call. I priced a similar motor at my alternator rebuild shop & it was a few dollars less. He stated the motors are not rebuildable. Russ is right. The motors are a three speed, but Newell only uses medium & low.

Let us know how it turns out..................................

Thanks guys. I ordered off the site for $122. Talked to Roger and he said these don't last as long as the newer computer fan style blowers that are pictured. Mine was replaced at Newell in March 08 when I purchased the coach. These motors are Chinese. The Volvo 240 fan is very similar and made by Bosch or someone in Europe. I'll compare and let you know.

The Volvo fan cost is $44/list $257. I will order one and see if it will work. It is made by Siemens/VDO.

While hooking my front heat exchanger up just now i blew the fuse to the fan. Any idea where these fuses are located?
I've looked in all the obvious places but must be overlooking the location.I've looked on Roger's site but can't find an answer.
Thanks,

Steve,
Not sure what the obvious places are so I'll ask. Have you looked in the 5th compartment back on the left side in the fuse panel that is covered with the velcroed cover? Have you checked in the fuse panel in the rear closet? Next I would check in my owner's manual. If you can't find it, I'll look in mine tomorrow.

I think you will find it with the other fuses on the side of the AquaHot unit. That is where mine is.

Steve

You may have to take the stainless cover off the front of the AH to see the fuses
