We will be there 5-14.  Looking forward to it.

We are at Bella Terra April 28- May 12. Planning sounds like fun!

RE: Alaska 2019 - folivier - 09-15-2018

Quick update. We'll be in the 36' Foretravel so will be much more comfortable and have much longer range. I just added 400 watts of solar while at Tom's and am planning to switch over to 3 100Ah LiFePO4 batteries, either BattleBorn or LifeBlue. Hopefully that will be adequate for all of the boon docking we'll do in Alaska.
The Teklanika campground inside of Denali reservations open up on December 1st. Unfortunately there is a 40' limit so anybody longer probably won't be able to get in.
Clarke any preference on what week we try to reserve?

No preference..... we're with you all the way.

Yeah we won't fit in Tek, but we'd like to rendezvous somewhere else along the way. As you firm up a schedule, please let us know.

I can see another 45' Newell in your future Forest!

I've learned to never say never. ...

FYI: Denali campgrounds are now open for reservations. Just booked July 9-16 for us and Clarke. But note the 40' max size limit.

RE: Alaska 2019 - DK on the road - 12-14-2018

My wife and I are going to AK this next summer. I need to start planning on where we can camp. We haven't set up a schedule yet but it would be fun to meet other Newel owners along the way.

I have had a bad habit of pushing thru more miles in a day, than I need to and not stopping and smelling the roses. I am really trying to go slower on this trip and be more relaxed. I just get worried that there may be fewer sites to accept 45' vs 40'. My last trip this fall through the northern states was met with empty campgrounds due to end of season. It was Easy to not schedule and get a site.

Any other Newell Gurus that have done this trip, offer any advise ?

Is there plenty of boon docking locations to minimize the need to be in a campground except once every 10 days or less ?

RE: Alaska 2019 - whatsnewell - 12-14-2018

Our good friends, Steven and Linda Dempsey, went to Alaska the summer of 2016. They boondocked a lot, but also found many inexpensive campgrounds in great locations. Check out their blog at http://thechouters.blogspot.com. Start reading beginning in May of 2016. Lots of great information!
