RE: 1994 Series 60 For Sale - Newbie 1 - 10-16-2018

Appreciate any feedback or info about this coach. Anyone know specs about this unit or prior ownership, etc?  Still looking in this age/price range but need something durable/reliable as no tools and limited knowledge on how to fix this massive unit.  Appreciate any help and suggested price offer.

Thanks

With those miles, it will primarily depend on how well it has been maintained and what work has been done on it during the past several years. Things like brakes, air bags, tires, batteries can add up if they haven't been changed out in a significant amount of time. If you pay someone else to change the rear lounge to a bed, it will be expensive. If you can either do it yourself or live with it the way it is that makes a lot more sense. It would have a GVWR of about 48,000 pounds and a GCWR (including what you are towing) of about 68,000 pounds.

This is the first time I have seen this coach advertised. Knowing the last three digits of the VIN might add something to the information search.

My advise is that if you have limited knowledge of mechanical things, and are not able to fix most things, then i would really consider carefully purchasing any older coach, most of all one that has that many miles on it. all of us work pretty steadily on our coaches to either fix or maintain and these beasts can eat you up financially if your are not really handy yourself.

i love my newell, but they are not for the fainthearted. most folks on this forum are pretty handy and do alot of the work themselves or know enough to know what should be done when they have them worked on.

my two cents worth

Michael and Tom -

Thanks for your replies. The coach number is 369. I am fairly handy but do not have significant tools to address extensive engine or transmission issues, etc - definitely discussing the maintenance history with the owner. Certainly would appreciate more details about the unit. It appears to have had a green interior (tile, original carpet, design line in the kitchen dinette tables, etc. Exterior previously was wrapped and the exterior (assume painted at some point - not original with green interior) has missing paint. No hot water heater, but the hookups are still there. Genset is not original, but then again neither is the engine. 250k doesn't seem like an issue if these are maintained, which the history appears to exist. However no transmission service. Seems like a '94 with 250k on rebuilt engine and likely 500k overall might be past due? Thanks again for all the support. Trying to make an informed decision.

RE: 1994 Series 60 For Sale - Fulltiming - 10-23-2018

Thanks for the coach number. I don't have much history on #369. It likely has the Allison HT 741 electronic 4 speed transmission. If the water heater is missing, it probably had the Raritan 20 gallon electric marine water heater, probably with engine heat exchanger. Those aren't too hard to install but they are about $900.

The original generator was probably a Kohler 20KW. Surely the transmission has had a fluid and filter change in 475,000 miles. If it hasn't, I would be worried about what else hasn't been serviced. It looks like it was registered in Las Vegas, NV from at least 2011-2014. It is 45'0" long. Typically the rear lounge coaches were purchased by race teams and were high mileage vehicles. Not sure about the "2 propane tanks". The coaches built without Aqua Hots typically had a large 68 gallon propane tank.
