RE: installing magnum 2812 questions - edkunkel - 11-07-2018

Is the distance installation recommendation based on spark (for lead acid) or HEAT for lithium?

they ideally want the battery monitor outside the compartment of the batteries to avoid corrosion and or spark.

i have agm batteries so should have neither

as for the 5 foot rule on the twisted pair wires, he said it was due to resistance values. not sure i buy it

Yeah the length thing is puzzling, cause the original twisted pairs from the shunts went all the way the panel above the microwave where the control panel is/was.

Probably in a lab test the distance might matter, but for our purposes it shouldn't make that much of a difference. Unless you want to count mili Amps.

for those of you with the magnum inverter charger.....is it mounted directly on the wall of the bay or on a panel or on standoffs.

thanks

Forgot to ask Tom, but what is the bulkhead made of that you're mounting the Magnum to?
Is it carpet covered?

Could u go to 14 gauge wire??

RE: installing magnum 2812 questions - encantotom - 11-09-2018

Yes it is carpet covered

I mounted mine directly to the carpet covered wall just like the original.

i decided how i am mounting it. the wall is pretty flimsy and the inverter is very heavy. so, i cut a 16x16 piece of 3/4 plywood. i went to the metal supply shop and got some scrap 1/8 aluminum diamondplate that they sell for 3 bucks a pound and had them cut it on their shear to the same size as the plywood. got some 1/4-20 t nuts and will drill the holes in the plywood and diamondplate and screw it to the wall with a zillion screws, then mount the inverter on the plate using bolts into the tnuts.

i am mounting the shunt in the battery compartment and making a couple of new 4/0 cables for it. i have a hydraulic cable crimper that works up to a couple of sizes past 4/0. i am mounting the battery monitor module in the aquahot bay to make it easy to see. then run new cable to the inverter from it through the bays.

last i have to make a new adapter plate for the control panel as it is a different size than the prosine one.
