As to the "Head Temperature" for activation, most of the "marine" type of auto-extinguishers will have 175º heads; very few are 225º. But, I'd surely not consider one that's over 300º as you've seen.
For the Gen compartment, Newell installs a small SEA-FIRE FG-125A with the fuel shut-off, which is what you want for a diesel fire suppression system.
