Caution not to gear too fast. The Detroits don't seem to want to work much below 1900. I would think the ratio you have will be fine. Upgrades to cooling system may be necessary. In ag equipment the 555 was replaced by the far superior 8.3. I did a few of these conversions 20 ish yr ago. This was a good match. Good luck, Mark
