removing and replacing lug nuts on newell
#1

hi all,

i want to be able to take a tire off the newell.

i think it has 1" lugnuts (i just didnt go check tonite).

i have an aircat 1/2" impact wrench. which some of you say will work.

will it work off the airpressure in the coach?

i dont have large volume compressor at home.

and....what is the best thing to get to torque them back down?

i dont want to spend 500 bucks on a torque multiplier.

You will probably need about 550-750 lb-ft of torque to break them loose. You may be able to do it with a heavy duty 1/2" air impact wrench but it would be close to its max if not exceeding its limits. 1/2" air impact guns claim anywhere from 350 (Husky, Kobalt) to 750 (Ingersol TiMax model) lb-ft of reverse torque but those with the higher torque require around 5-6 cfm @ 90 psi. That is above the 4.8 cfm max output of my DeWalt 4.5 gallon, 15 amp, 200 psi air compressor. The engine driven air compressor would likely produce at least 7.5 cfm @90 psi.

Tom. I did my the old way.. With a lug wrench a 5' bar and a adjustable jack stand for the bar. Then the 1/2 " impact (ONCE). Then I remembered I was Not a Kid anymore!!

Time for a trip to Harbor Frieght. You need a new compressor for your Dream Shop anyway.

If I was a bit closer I'd help. As I suddenly have time off till further notice!!

Tom: We just removed the drivers side tag wheel and it was a reverse thread. Personally I prefer a Pro to re-torque them. I put it back on and drove it about 2 miles to have them re done.

Your 2002 should be hub piloted, metric in size and all RH.

Your 89-90 was probably like my 91 which have stud pilot, which are SAE size & LH & RH.

Trucking industry changed over in the late 80's. Newell must have had some old inventory?

steve, when we took the rear wheel off of my coach at your house, did we just use the aircat 1/2" impact?

because i have the same one. mine claims to have 1000 lbs reverse torque.
