slide pins wont engage
#1

my bedroom slide pins wouldnt engage when slide was in.  mine has magnets on the top of the slide near the pin hole and one had come off.  cleaned it up and super glued it back on.  works fine.  i had never used the slides without the engine running, but they went in and out just fine.

it was the first real work i had done in the new shop.

having the genie lift made it easy

and of course i had to play a little pinball too

Really tough duty but somebody has to do it. No mess in that new shop I am sure.

My current plans are to see Leo in Mesa on May 23rd. to have him pull my generator to replace the hydraulic hoses, install new tag air springs and new height control valves. Should be ample time to do the repairs and then off to the rally. If it works out, perhaps we can hit the road together.

rick, sorry i missed your question last fall. Leo is a first class mechanic that works at All Aboard America in Mesa, AZ. they have several hundred charter busses and he specifically works on prevost, newell and other high end customer coaches. he has worked on many many of our newells. he is not a slide or rv system guy, but engine, transmission and suspension shop. they also have a full paint shop. they have done a complete paint on one of our gurus coaches.

a follow up to this topic.  on my trip to alabama and back this year and the previous trip, the bedroom slide pins would only come in once in a while when the slide was in.  sometimes i could move the coach and they would come in and then once in alabama, they stopped coming in entirely.

today i finally decided to see if i could figure it out.  richard and i played with it in alabama, but we didnt get it figured out and i didnt want to take anything else apart on the road.  in my shop i can use my scissors lift and do it in the shade and with ease.

i called and talked to mark and he gave me some ideas to try.

mine is a little unique because it has a indicator light panel for each of the two slides.

the one picture is with the slide out.  all is good

the other picture is with the slide in.  you can see that the slide pin locks are not shown as locked and the in upper front light is not lit.  that means the sensor at the slide pin that is towards the front of the coach is not detecting the slide to be in so it stops both slide pins from coming down.  mine is also a little unique in that there is a hall effect sensor on the side of the slide lock pin mechanism that detects the round rare earth magnet that is superglued to the top of the slide pin hole (see picture).

ends up that last time i had glued them just a little too far in towards the inside of the coach and i guess the slide itself has perhaps drooped just a tad as well from age and use and the two of them made it so when the microswitch down by the hydraulic ram said the slide was in, the control box then checks the slide pin sensor to make sure the top of the slide is in and it was saying no, so no slide pins going down.

when i had the slide in i could see the magnets were a little too far in towards the coach and about a quarter inch past the sensor.  taking the magnets off and gluing them about a quarter inch more towards the outside of the slide was all it needed.  worked first time and then a second time in a row and all indicator lights showed correct status.
