Chester
That is the same tool I used...sometimes a guy has to use what's available.

I don't think the pipe clamp thing will fit in the confined space of the water bay... Worth running to Horrible freight and trying though... $9.99 each not sure if it includes the pipe for that price though...

The pipe tool in the photos I posted are for the back engine bay door and not for the bays on the side of the coach such as the water bay door.

I found an aluminum 36" clamp at H freight that I think will work - worth a shot for $10...
I still have to do the engine lid shocks so will use it for those...

Ok went to Horrible Freight and found 24", 36" and longer aluminum clamps.  I tried the 24" but it was 1 inch too short for the bay door springs.  So I cut off the 36" just a little longer than needed to hold the spring (almost cut it too short).  I drilled some 1/2" holes as Chester suggested on both wnds to hold the shock.  Tied a zip tie behind the sliding clamp so it would not try to get smaller when shoving the device into the small space.  I installed the rear spring mount and then put the clamp device on the spring.  To my surprise it was fairly easy to clamp down.
I'm going to get a bigger clamp to tackle the engine bay door springs next!
Karen was overjoyed that it worked... Well she said 'yay' ... And went back to reading her book...

Update to this thread: here is the part number I ended up using (just ordered 4 more) - these seem to fit most of the exterior bay doors:
