aqua-hot on 50 amp service
#1

For those of you that have 50 amp service, what kind of temps can you handle using only the 4500 watt electric element on the aqua-hot with out using diesel, and can you take a regular shower on it? Trying to figure if it is worth wiring it at the house when I use coach as "guest quarters".
Thanks Jim.

We've been in mid 20's using only the electric aqua hot on 50 amp and kept the coach inside comfortably at 70 and able to take showers back to back. Really only used the diesel monthly to exercise it or when dry camping.

I am at the campground outside Callaway Gardens right now. It is 32 degrees and I am pulling 35 amps on one leg and 18 amps on the other leg. Coach is toasty warm. Remember that you probably have electric strip heaters (I have 3) along with the aqua hot heaters.

In my opinion, the cost of the labor and pedestal and other do-dads far outweigh the cost of the 50 amp wire.

In other words I suggest you install a 50 amp service.

My AH will get to about 210 on electric and on diesel only it will cut off at around 200.  Electric has always been a little hotter.  If you want it to get hot water really fast cut both of them on.

Not so worried about temps, the 110 volt 1500 watt element will heat the water to 202 f. but will drop and not recover with a long shower or call for heat by either thermostat. The temp will drop with diesel also, but recovers quickly. If the performance of the 220 volt element is close to that of diesel, I should be okay in the winter. Wish I had some strip heaters, but do not.
