HT-741 transmission issue
#1

I'm sharing this episode to inform for future reference only.

I changed the oil and filter in the transmission and put in Transynd. Following that change I gradually experienced soft shifts in the 2-3 and 3-4 shifts. When the shift occurred I needed to back off the throttle for the shift to fully engage and stop what I believed was clutch slipping. The frequency of these shifts gradually increased to the point that almost all of these shifts were this way. Then, on the way home from visiting my son in Memphis I noticed the transmission temp rising. When it got to 250 I stopped and let it cool. When driving again, the temp rose again so I left the coach at a shop and took the car home to deal with an urgent family issu.

The tech scanned the control unit and found nothing. He checked what he could externally and found nothing. Since the problem started with the fluid and filter change I asked him to install a new filter. When I picked up the coach and drove home everything worked as it should, something about the filter was restricting flow. Whether this was a filter problem or the catching of contaminants released by better cleaning action of the new oil I do not know. Based on the increasing degree of problems over time I suspect the latter.

There are two grades of filter available, standard paper fiber and glass filament, both filter to the same degree, gut the glass one is less restrictive of flow.

HT-741 is what the tag says, that is the electronically controlled version of the HT-740.
