anyone ever hear of just replacing the Murphy w/ a standard Q or K? If it's expense, at some low price it might be worth it. Or is it structural?

Structural, not really. But to do it right and not retain the deep cabinets on the two sides of the bed could involve a significant expense. Also, the conversion would require some reworking of the bottom of the new bed to guide over the carpet. All the Murphy bed models I have seen have had the flat floor slide under the bed and are meant to be raised prior to opening or closing the bedroom slide.

That said, it is likely less expensive than going from a Queen or King Size bed to a Murphy bed as that forces you to build new floor to ceiling cabinets on the bed wall.

Let's say that you would REALLY want to change it out or get a very good deal on the Murphy bed model to go to the expense.
