genny over temp
#1

Hello,

Any advise gratefully received!
I have a 20KVA Power Tech genny, After starting it runs for only around 10 seconds before shutting down, the green light flashing twice which indicates genny over temp, this is not possible as its only been running for 10 seconds from cold, if i reset it then it just does the same.
Any advise as to what the problem could be?
Thanks in advance,
Rob

Does your generator have a remote blower fan? If so then I would make sure that is running when the generator starts up. If it's not running it could be a start capacitor on the fan.

If you do have a remote radiator, there could be an air pocket causing a “no flow of coolant”.  Check your engine temperature by touch or using an IR gun.  The Power Tech units have been notoriously difficult to get the air purged.  It will appear the coolant is full but don’t be fooled, that pesky air pocket stops the flow of coolant and the coolant in the engine reaches the shutdown point (HWT).

Some PT units have a “low level coolant switch” which shares the HWT alarm.
