In my case, speed makes a bigger difference in fuel burn.
Against the gov ( about 81 mph) I'm enjoying about 6 mpg.
At 65 ish, i get almost 7 mpg.

Last trip, I tried to hold it at 60 to 65 in order to get better MPGs -- that lasted about 10 miles.

Bottom line is that I LOVE it & wouldn't use it any less if it was getting less mpg!!!

I looked at the photo of the VIN and came to the same conclusion you did on the VIN but that would be a 1982 therefore the 10 digit (the C) must really be a G. That makes it a 1986. It should be coach number 101. It had 83,500 miles in 1995 in Lakeside, AZ and 202,000 miles on 5/16/2012 in Napoleon, OH.

Very well could be a G vs C.   Hard to tell in my picture.  Pretty sure this is considered an 86 from everything I have researched thus far.  Supposedly this went back to Newell for some extensive work with the previous owner.... Do you have access to records from Newell?  Where did you get the mileage number from 1995 in AZ?

No, I don't have access to Newell records. The mileage numbers are from AutoCheck which is how I tracked it back to a G in the VIN. They show 2 records for that coach. That would be the two registration/mileage records I referenced.

I have an '82 Newell Classic with the DD 6V92 engine (turbo) and get about the same mileage with, or without the enclosed car trailer.  The main determinate for my coach mpg is my speed, which I hold at about 60 mph using cruise control.  I get about 6.5-7 mpg depending on the terrain, and sometimes the wind (following, or head).  I have about 164,000 miles on the coach now, and since it passed 150,000 miles (broken in now) the mpg has improved slightly, and oil consumption has gone way down.  We have put about 61,000 of those miles on the coach in our 10 years of ownership.

When I bought #89 over a year ago it's condition was daunting,  but it fired right up , ran well and drove like a dream . But , it had new house batteries and all new tires . I felt it was pretty much road worthy , having recently made a 1300 mile trip . After much work we have now made three trips to the races pulling our 28ft trailer and are really enjoying the coach . People say it's the coolest thing at the track , peeling clear coat and all .
In my humble opinion,  if the green coach fires up , builds air and stands up on the suspension,  goes into gear ,etc , might be worth further investigation.  Those cracked tires though..
Good luck .

What kind of mileage do you get pulling the trailer?  What does the trailer weigh?
Trailer loaded is around 10k , haven't weighed it lately . I don't have an accurate fuel mileage as yet , tanks are linked so generator consumption is included . On a 1300 mile trip in July , genny ran three days straight , we saw 5.2 mpg , tried to maintain 60 /62 mpg. Trip to finals the other weekend , just under 800 miles , four days of gen , 4.6 mpg , 67 /70 mph . Generator is 12.5 kw Kohler with Perkins 4 cyl.

Thanks guys for the mileage figures.  It sounds like 6 mpg would be a likely number to expect.  What brand/type of tires would I need as all six are dry rotted.  They are all 11r24.5 but after a quick search online, I am unclear as to what I need in regard to steering vs drive vs regional vs longhaul etc.....  Just trying to get a handle on initial costs were I to buy this thing.

We have been very happy with the Yokohama tires we got last for our coach. Just be sure to get load range H at the minimum. Also check date codes on new tires. Our 8v92 averages 5.5 mpg on a bad day towing 12-15K and 7.25 mpg towing Fran's car +/-2800 lb on a REAL good day. most of the time it's 6.0-6.25 mpg range at speeds +/- 60-70. I don't think you will be disappointed if you are figuring on 6 mpg. Might get a bit of a pleasant surprise.

You want longhaul. Regional tires have a thick sidewall to help with curb damage. Makes them ride rougher. You dont need drive tires per se, the lugged tread is louder. Most of us run steer tires at all

We have Michelins and I'm very pleased with the ride and handling. If you join FMCA, or are already a member, they have an incredible buy direct program with Michelin - and also support the tires in their program.
