Air Leaks Riddle
#1

Have 2007 Coach 797 with Valid Air Trueline Leveling System. Two Thomas compressors. 166k miles.

Just came from Newell where they replaced 13 fittings on the air system, they replaced hoses and valves in the Bode door, did a wheel alignment that required an adjustment of a newly replaced front Height Control Valve.

In Montana at present where it's been nippy for us Florida thin bloods at around 4500 feet.

Coach Thomas compressors, at Newell, came on every 40 minutes for 30-45 seconds. Now coming on every 7 minutes for 40 seconds.

The Coach is leaning toward the passenger side and even with the Trueline leveling OFF, the driver rear side raises when the Thomas compressors come on.

The compressors come on less when the Coach has not been lowered and leveled out of Travel mode.

Have tried to Zero Set the Truelevel but to no avail. Seems to revert back. ?????

The Engine compressor brings Coach to Travel mode quickly and level.

Things done that could be related in last 2 years:

Newell replaced mx fittings 2 weeks ago
Bode Door hoses and valves fixed 2 weeks ago
All 3 HCV replaced within last year
Air Dryer filter replaced 1 year ago
Exhaust port purge valve on air dryer replaced
Travel Mode Valves replaced 11/16
Unloader on compressor replaced
Head relief valve replaced
Zero Set Leveled Coach at Newell and attempted myself (seemed like it accepted the code).
Check valve replaced in air tank by Newell 2 weeks ago

Questions:
Why would Trueline leveling try to level if turned off?
Have not replaced Solenoids. Could that be next step.
Could the raising of the driver rear be more the function of a problem with the front passenger air bag going down?
Airbags have not been replaced.

Have crawled around Coach with ultra-sonic headphones and soapy water (as has Newell). Was advised by Newell that as you fix the most obvious air leaks, the latent leaks then pop up. - basically a whack-a-mole issue.

Any other suggestions??

Will have looked at in Everett Washington when we get there on Thursday May 30th but would love to direct that facility with your wonderful knowledge.

Richard, you might take a look at the videos available on this site of Richard Entrekin's presentation on the fundamentals of the Newell air system http://newellgurus.com/showthread.php?tid=4957. Parts 3 and 4 deal with the suspension system although it is focused on the HWH system rather than the Valid system.

Two things to consider in your problem solving. No doubt the air system leaks more in cold weather. That’s one of the reasons I HATE the push to connect fittings that Newell uses. The second is that the left front sinking will definitely raise the right rear. Measure your heights at all four corners when you level, then measure later to see which corner is moving.

Michael, thanks for suggesting Richard's videos. They were great. Where do I find Richard's McMasters fittings invoice?

Richard great work. Thank you

Exactly right Richard. Or a mere handy dandy list of must haves from McMasters.
Now in Washington State.
In level campsite in 80f.
Stopped and left in Travel mode did not auto level.
Left Valid Truelevel On. Air escaping from passenger drive axle HCV.
Turned off Valid Truelevel. Air stopped immediately from Rear Pass HCV.
Compressor now coming on every 20 minutes for 30 seconds.
The polycarbonate bowl near the compressors quickly fills with water on a daily basis.
Will take in for an expert to look at when in Everett Washington. Concerned that pass HCV put on by CAT is not adjusted for right ride height. Though we travel down the road plumb. Will post next episode.

Hmmmmmm,

So, the rear pass travel solenoid is on when it’s not supposed to be, or the HCV is leaking when it’s not supposed to be.

Reading through your list, it seems the last thing in the list is the recalibration. I would be talking to Valid about the symptoms.

Can you easily reach the solenoids? A steel washer will stick to an energized solenoid.

After a visit to RV place ...who knows Valid. It appears we have a leaking driver rear side raise solenoid. It was driver's side not passenger side that was raising. Have new solenoid coming from Newell. Apparently, requires specialized tools. It that correct? For now. Level in Oregon but many have to let driver's rear down if air compressor is used. Travels down road fine. Possible Debi's in

Debris in Solenoid or need replacement.

At the risk of sounding like an editorial, you are not getting much help here because the predominant guru experience is with coaches with HWH leveling.

The experience base with later year coaches is not yet developed on the site. I look forward to you and other owners posting what they learn relative to the Valid systems.

It'll be a very sad state of affairs if I become the Valid System expert!
