No, the ZF suspension with the steerable tag axle was installed on all Newells starting with #697, although 3 coaches were built with the ZF suspension prior to that (#671, 681, and 685).

My coach dose not have the steer tag axle. I have not driven a steerable axle coach so don't know how to compare and have alway felt comfortable with my coach. I have had three Newells,  89 for 3 yrs, 96 for 9 yrs, 04 for 8 yrs all were different and I like them all. The 04 is the best handling and riding, but the most maintenance. 96 great coach with the 60 series eng and good traveling coach with no slides. The 89 was my introduction to a luxury coach. I bought a new 2000  Alegro Bus 1 slide which was my first M/H. After 4 month of a lot of problems I sold and went with Gulf Stream Scenic Cruiser with no slides. OK coach until I had a tire blow out that came through the floor. This show what the fiberglass coaches are. We then started looking for a Prevost and durning our look we went to the Newell Factory. After seeing how Newell are made I then only wanted a Newell. I had made a commitment to Marathon of Dallas on a Prevost but they ended taking the 89 Newell in on trade so I bought it from them. I have never been sorry for buying my Newells. I am getting out of M/H and my travel will never be the same. God has bless me and my family and we have been able to drive to all 49 states and all the providence of Canada. We now have great pictures and memories.
