Woke up this morning to no electric heat from the Aquahot.
Breaker OK, checked the voltage according to Roger Berke's troubleshooting guide, ok voltage at panel. Next step is to check the electric elements, but where are they?
If it's a 431, they'll be screwed into the side of the tank next to the burner assembly. You may just have an overtemp switch failing, though. Those are under the plate (~4"x4" sq) mounted immediately above the burner. Remove the corner cover and everything else will be visible. Meaning the external portions of the elements and the aforementioned plate will be visible. You could also check for incoming voltage under the small plate where the 120 comes into the unit.
After speaking with Rudy and Roger Berke we determined it is a hi-limit thermostat that is bad. I have 120 volts on each terminal going into the thermostat but coming out I have 120 volts on one and 50 volts on the other. So Roger is sending me a new thermostat.
Thanks Arcticdude, looks like you called it right.
I have a slightly older one and did the update to those thermostats. They seemed to be a source for issues, even though I haven't yet had any real problems with mine. At least they're pretty easy to replace!
Got the thermostat in Monday. Easy install and have heat on electric once again.
Thanks Roger and Rudy!
glad you got it fixed
