Had to spend some time under the coach today running wires. What is the small radiator(?) or heat exchanger mounted on the frame in front of the differential?
It has an electric fan mounted on the front.
Transmission cooler?
Yes you got it right.
Forest, I've seen this thing you are talking about and figured it is the transmission cooler.
I thought the transmission cooler ran through the main radiator?
Guess it wouldn't be a bad idea to clean it. I need to make sure the fan is working also.
Wonder how one checks out the fan. Where is the thermostat that cuts the fan on. I just always figured that if my transmission does not run hot it is working.
I didn't spend time looking at it but there might be a way to jumper the wires to make the fan work. I might crawl under there next week to look at it again and clean it. My transmission temp does run hotter than I think it should. So either the fins are clogged or the fan is not working.
I have jump around the fan thermostat to make the fan run on demand. Call Newell and they will tell you and it is real simple but I am not sure which wire I jump. I think it was in the panel at rear of coach behind the engine hatch at back
Somewhere along the way I was told this was a part of the dash a/c. I note that my transmission generally runs hotter than my engine, especially going down a long grade using the Jake when the engine cools down and the transmission heat up. Please post what you find out.
Chester,
If you look inside the front of compartment R-1 you will see your a/c evaporator with an electric fan for your dash air......................I'm hoping 2 Newells are alike.
I think you will find it is not the transmission cooler, but rather the hydraulic fluid heat exchanger/cooler. Russ
