Trying to understand systems still. What water heating modes am I likely to have with this heater and is it only for potable water not interior heating? [Image: ScreenShot2014-04-02at21753PM_zps814e2331.png]
Looks like a 10 or 15 gal. electric home style hot water heater.
That is a Raritan 120vac electric and engine assisted water heater. Good system but you'll only get hot water when plugged into shore power or generator running plus you'll get hot water when the engine is running. No coach heat.
Is that the only means to heat water or might there be a propane as well
Probably not. I had that water heater in my '93 and it works well.
how long to heat from cold

I will be using the coach in areas with no hookups an trying to judge how long it might take to reach showering temp.
If you are running the coach engine it warms up very fast with the engine coolant, depending on what size element your 120v is it does take about 1/2hr if you have no shore power you will have to run the gennie. I have this same water heater in mine and I like it
Ours will usually hit shower temps in about 15 min on generator when boondocking. But we often just run generator all night for AC in hot weather or electric heat in cold weather. We use propane heat if generator noise is an issue. Or in electric doesn't quite keep up.
The Raritan takes a standard screw in element but it is only 1200 watts (I think). I replaced the one in mine with either a 1700 or 2000, don't remember which, but it did heat a little bit faster. Raritan also told me it could be hooked up to 220vac by changing out the elements and thermostat but that would require running new wire.
it is a very good system, but notorius for rusting out and leaking so keep an eye on it.

they are very pricey to replace....like between 500 and a grand just for the heater. i replace mine in my previous 1990 coach.
