howdy all,

i am close to being ready to paint the inside of the shop. the walls i am going to do a semigloss white.

the question is the ceiling. being 20 foot high and 4600 sq foot of un interrupted ceiling, the painter is suggesting doing a flat ceiling paint to hide imperfections.

i will be running cars/newell inside as i work on them some. if i do flat, will the ceiling turn black from exhaust? not that i would wash 20' ceilings if they were semigloss or satin.

so, if it was you and the walls were semigloss, what would you do for the ceiling?

Flat

Satin

Semigloss

Keep it simple.. Semigloss..
semi-gloss
semi gloss grey
By the time you get the lights up there you will not see imperfections....Besides they are TWENTY FEET AWAY!!! so the sheer distance will work to your benefit.
I don't know what your insect situation is out there in the boonies Tom, but FYI, we added an anti insect solution to our paint, in our storage room, about 10 years ago, and we still haven't had any camp out in that room. Perfect for a work area. Available at Sherman Williams, if interested.
Flat black & you will never notice exhaust soot!
I like color, even beige of off white. Solid white will be very stark.
Black would be good too! It may not be important but I'm thinking it's good to use colors that have minimal effect on items you may be trying to match a paint color on. My thinking that white, black and the greys in between would have minimal effect on your color vision in the shop.
Interesting idea , Larry. I didn't know about the insect repellant paint.
I think the painting of several star formations and clouds would be a nice addition
