Well my Chinese knockoff, KNOCKED OUT this afternoon. Motor inside caught on fire. Manufacturer said that I was not using a large enough pump since the specs on Chinese are less than perfect. They suggested going to a 1 hp from the 1/2 hp and are shipping today , so I should have quickly. I did replace everything else too 4 months ago. I assume that the head pressure relief valve and check valve would not have been affected. I hope I can just replace the compressor and it will all work again.

ANYBODY have any ideas on what went wrong besides under capacity ???

Smoke was coming from internal on the compressor for sure and stopped when switched off manually....

Of course there are no techs around to bounce this off of ....
It is being covered under warranty BTEW, but another $28 for the extra hp
Doesn't sound like it tripped the breaker so it didn't have a large power surge. Any damage to the wiring such as melted insulation? Were you aware of it continuing to run for an extended time? I wouldn't think that the motor burning up would have damaged the relief valve or check valve but a defective pressure relief valve or a plugged check valve could have had an impact on the life of the motor.
In both of my previous coaches I found the compressors running on due to air leaks. The thermal overload would shut the compressor off when it got hot.
Sounds more like a bad design or defect since it didn't shut off when it overheated.
The wiring seems fine and it must have only been burning for maybe 15 minutes before caught. No visible damage, just the smell of burnt piston. Hope nothing else damaged. I think the overload switch didn't work or not in this compressor...
Sorry to hear of the issue, but darn glad you were able to catch it early.

Do you have a fire suppression system in the generator compartment? I'm assuming that is the location of your 120v compressor...

Can anyone comment if it would be prudent to add another 'fail safe' to the + input at the compressor?
my comp is in the blower bay under the passenger seat. No fire system, just several extinguishers on board. no flames on this one just smoke and after switched off nothing. just wondering why a new motor pooped out so quick ?
Made in China more than likely.
Does the paperwork show a duty cycle??
manufacturer sent me a larger 1 hp overnight and I installed it and it's working just fine. Think the other one had a bad piston as this new one is much quieter within. Yes they are made in China and sold out of San Diego by Cal Air. Only $150 and this new one $28 more and warranty took care of it.
