Looking at a coach that has a switch on the dash labeled TAg Axle so I'm assuming it has a steerable tag.  How can I test it please?  Owner doesn't know about it...
that switch is not for a steerable tag if it is older than a 2004.

it is for increasing and decreasing the air pressure on the tag to adjust traction or weight.

btw, i have never used mine. maybe others can pipe in about it

I used mine by mistake. It was right next to the merge switch and I pushed the tag switch to lower the air pressure on the tag axle. It dropped the rear end so low that my safety chains were ground off. I guess I had driven about 100 miles. So be careful when you're playing with them and check your drive height.
The switch is there to transfer weight from tags to drives if you are in snow or mud and need traction to move. I tested it on the scales at Newell and it does do its job. I do not remember the exact weight transferred however it was several thousand pounds.
How do I test the steerable tag to see if it works?
Like Tom said unless it is a 2005 or newer it won't have a steerable tag. If it does have one it works automatically and you will definitely see the difference at low speed turns. Like half the turning radius.
That switch is just like said above. Note that Newells do not have a lifting tag. Oh yeah and the switch needs to be in the middle position, it's a 3 way switch.
I seem to continually get my dash switches in the incorrect position. Some important ones are off in neutral and some in the down position. I am going to install 1/8" white pin stripping in the appropriate place on each switch to help reduce my mistakes.
Coaches #671, 681, 685, and 697 and higher had steerable tag axles. No coach prior to the 2004 model year had the steerable tag axle (ZF suspension) and 15 of the 38 model year 2004's did not have steerable tags.
