Ok so my question , on my 88 with a 8v92 , i guess im trying  to figure out which transmission I have. I can feel it Shift 4 times while driving but at 65 mph I'm running 1800 RPMs does that sound right.
 My next question is on the dash I have an override switch and I have no idea what it overrides can anybody help me. THANKS AARON
Most Newells of your vintage used the Allison HT-740 which is a 4 speed. I typically only feel 3 shifts but you could be feeling a small bump as the torque converter locks up. I have been told that there were a few Newells built with the 8V92 and a HT-750, the 5 speed version of the HT-740 although I have personally never seen one. Newell has told me that the HT-750's tended to shift more abruptly so they stayed with the HT-740 until shortly after the change to the Series 60 when the 6 speed Allison was used.

1800-1850 at 65 mph is typically gearing in direct for the 8V92/HT-740 transmissions.

The Override switch is for the DDEC (Detroit Diesel Electronic Control). If the engine computer causes the engine to shutdown, pressing that switch will allow the engine to be restated to allow you to move the coach off the road. Be careful using that switch as you are now bypassing the safeties the engine computer uses to protect the engine from damaging itself.
My 93 runs about that RPM and speed combination and "yes" to everything else Michael said.
Thanks for the info.. I love this site.. Great people on here..So would i be doing bad if i try to run 70mph with that high of an rpm. I guess what im asking is what is the highest rpm i should run. I also found out that my speedo is about 5-6 mph off too. Any way to adjust that?
As long as your tires are rated for 75, there should be no issue in running 70. Your engine redline is 2100 rpm and you will be below 2000 rpm at 70. The 8V92 will run wide open at 2100 rpm and actually enjoy it. Torque is 1450 lb-ft at 1200 rpm. The caveat is watching the temperature. I HIGHLY recommend using VMSpc to get real temperature and pressure readings rather than relying on the less accurate dash gauges. Normal coolant temperature is 180-195 (Detroit specs say 170-195 but most 8V92 Newells have a 180 degree thermostat in them). If temperatures get above 200 back out of the throttle and above 205 be very careful to start letting the engine cool down.
michael, does the deep engine scanner we have for the DDEC 1/2 that we have allow changes to the speedo calculations? but that would only be on the DDEC and not the actual gauge?

There are a bunch of free apps for smart phone speedometers. I have 'Ulysse Speedometer' on my Android. It also has lots of other functions, including HUD.
Regarding the speedo; it may or may not be adjustable. On my 77 it wasn't and on my 93 with the VDO gauge it is and I adjusted it according to the directions I found on their site.

I don't think so Tom and you are correct, that would not affect the dash speedometer.
Hey thanks alot!! for the input. Im going to really look into the VMSpc. Also i did find the coach number and it is in fact #166. Found it on the blue prints of the coach. Thanks again everyone for the help..Hope one day i will be able to return the favor.
