Michael:

Sent you a PM.

Thanks

Russ,
I am considering the same engine upgrades. Can you share a little more info about the exhaust and K&N filter? Were they done while you owned the coach? If so, do you notice any increase in power (boost pressure) and fuel economy?
Thanks

Bill,
Thanks for asking, Yes! The only reason I even considered changing anything was because my muffler was leaking and beyond repair, in my opinion, so we were at a rally and Major, can't remember his company name w/o looking at my records but M & H comes to mind, was there and I wanted to upgrade to K & N air filter that he sells and I had bought from him before for our Semi-Truck Conversion, so while talking with him about that, he says the best improvement in power and fuel economy comes with increased airflow through the engine including changing the muffler, also! I said, you must be a mind reader, as my muffler needs replacing also!
The next day, he & I replaced both and I personally felt the engine seemed more powerful and ran cooler and crisper, if you will, with those improvements. As far as fuel economy, I might have seen a mile per gallon, or so, but that was not my goal, I had plenty of power, as this Bus is a totally different animal at 38' than the full sized units, when you are pushing 20-30 tons down the road, fuel economy is not at the top of the page. Temperatures, performance and longevity of the engine takes precedence, in my opinion!
I believe the improvements were well worth the cost and would do it again in a heartbeat, the sound I get with the Jake on, going thru a tunnel is well worth it?, although my wife/navigator always reminds me of local noise ordinances, kind of reminds my of my youth in the seventies!

Someone is going to get a great Coach that will challenge any Semi-truck on any Pass in the Rockies, riding in comfort that ONLY NEWELL can provide!!

Russ,
Thanks for the info. I've been eyeballing my muffler for a while now and there's a couple small brown spots on it so it's gonna have to go soon too! Do you know if the K&N was the direct replacement for the Ecolite 11 X 24 that they come with or was it a different type?
My jake already sounds great. It's my favorite thing about my Newell. I use it at every available opportunity. I can't wait to free up the plumbing and let it breath.
Thanks again!

Yes, it was a perfect fit! It takes about 2 1/2 hrs to remove, clean & treat it, but no adapter or modifications were made.
When I replaced my turbo with a hi-po one from ss60, I replaced my 55 gal muffler with an aero xl5050
resonator. Seemed to pick up a bit of hp and torque.
A word of warning, with the resonator, not much louder than stock. But with jake on, VERY LOUD.
