My house batteries will not hold a charge anymore.I can only get 10.5 volts after being charged for 8 hours.3 of them are leaking around terminals. They are at least 5 years old. I found a place close to me that sells lifeline 255ah 8da for 586.00 ea. Other than cleaning the terminals when I replace them is there anything else I need to do to them?
Turn off battery disconnect switch. Take a picture of your connections and mark them as you disassemble. Negative post first. As I remove them I tag them with a wire label tag, noting position on which battery.

Thanks Steve. When I am done with install turn disconnect back on.Do the new batteries reguire any change in charging method for the first time?
Keith,

You are going from flooded cells to AGM, right? If so, the charging characteristics are different and your inverter/charger should allow you to configure it for AGM.

And, just for grins, give this guy an opportunity to quote you on the Lifelines:

Thank you both I will check him out.
Keith,
They were replaced in 2011 as I recall. You might want to look into a pure sine inverter/charger. The original xantrex does not have the perfect charge profile for agm batteries.
