If anyone removes their dash cover & breaks or has any of the xmas tree retainers missing, here is a replacement source. Mine were white & shaped slightly differently than these, but these fit the dash holes perfectly & snap into the dash cover just like the original ones. They are also the same length. Here is the part info.................

hi steve, i bought all new ones and the way they are installed i would have to remove the leather covering to put them in. or did you cut slots in to get them in instead?

tom
Tom,
On the bottom side of my plastic dash cover there were approximately 1" round holes with a 1/2" long slot off one side. The head of the retainer is bigger than the holes but I was able to easily work them between the foam rubber and the plastic cover. The ultraleather is put on over the foam on my cover. I then pushed them sideways into the slot and they "snapped" in like they were designed. Is your dash cover not like that? Let me know if you want a photo.

"No two Newells are the same"
Mine is leather and there is no slots and the holes are smaller

Tom
This is what mine look like.
I may do that myself. Mine right now is not like that at all.

They have thousands of automotive clips and screws....used by upholstery shops everywhere.
Don't use the Dorman xmas tree retainers that I posted. While they fit they are two stiff and hard plastic & both snapped off when I went to install the dash cover. Guess I should have tried before I posted.

I recently removed a Xmas tree connector when I had problems with my yellow parking brake knob. Boy, it sounds like the dash going to break to pieces when it finally "gives".

I had to remove the upholstery cover to get to the parking brake assembly. Pray that you NEVER have to do this job. It is a real BEAR!
