In my 1996 the Headlight dimmer is mounted along the column below the actuating "stalk" I believe it's bad and needs to be replaced. Since it's pretty accessible I'll give it a shot.

Attached is a couple of photos. Anyone know the part number for it. There are quite a few that are similar in appearance, but have differing part numbers.

Thanks!
Rick ,
Try : AC Delco D 817 . From C series Chevy pick ups after '83 , other GM vehicles as well .

O'Reilly : DS77 . Standard Motor Part .
Perfect! It crosses to a SMP DS79 or DS79T about 12 dollars on amazon. I'll have a couple tomorrow.

Thanks!
Received the cheaper parts.

Installed.

Either worked great!

I now have Hi-Beam/Low-Beam functionality AND the light turn on when the Headlight switch is activated.

Yay!
If you want your switch to last, numerous articles are here about re-wiring the headlights so the switches operate relays instead of carrying the full amperage. A pretty straightforward fix, run large gauge wires from your fuse panel by the passenger firewall to headlight relays and use the existing wiring to activate the relays.
My switches already operate relays, so I'm good there. The switch itself no longer "clicked" the plastic had simply worn out.

Thanks!
