Full Version: Dump waste gate replacement

From what I can gather somehow the end of my waste gate in he dump mechanism has gotten bent to where it does not seat in the channel as it should down at the very bottom where it should be sealing.  So, what you end up with is seepage past that lack of seal so that when you pull off the cap to screw on your hose you get a wonderful surprise the first time it happens.

Just looking for any tips/tricks on replacing that part if anyone else has been down this road.  Have manual for just about everything else, but not that mechanism.
If it's a Dupre valve and the gasket hasn't been replaced in a long time it could be the gasket either swollen or popped out of the metal plate and not allowing it to drop completely to form a seal. Or possibly a piece of gasket has torn off and fallen into the groove at the bottom of the valve body.
Here are a couple webpages with info on the Dupre valves and a post with info on the valves:

Pay attention, the insert is directional. Lube it with silicone grease before trying to install in the paddle. It is a tight fit in the paddle, and the lube helps.

Buy a handful of the inserts when you order, and keep the spares on the coach. You WILL NOT find them in camping world or any other RV parts counter.
I’m assuming your valve is a Dupree as they have two screws on the top and when removed allow the paddle to be removed.  It can be manual or pneumatic.  The valve body has a groove at the bottom for the paddle to seat into.    These grooves harbor “gunk” and impede the paddle from seating completely which causes the valve to leak.
The fix is to clean the groove.  Use a 5/16 diameter rod 12” long,  grind the edges parallel with each other and the end at an angle (looks like a chisel).  Use this to clean the groove and flush with water while cleaning.
The paddles are position sensitive and marked, be sure to re-install the correct way or you’ll have a leaker!  Use a silicone grease on the paddle.
Thanks to all!

Anyone like/use Dupree's Treatzall tank treatment to clean tank?

Sorry for this newbie question as well. Don't have any red thread lock in my tool box yet. Looks like there are several versions of it. Any suggestions on the proper lock for this application?
Just be aware that in different brands of threadlocker the colors are different. Red is blue and blue is red! Read the label to be certain.
