Should the ems be located after the ATS and cover both the shore and genset power or just in the shore line before the ATS?
How big is your generator and how many AC units do you have?

If the generator will handle any possible load, then the EMS would only need to be on the shore side for plugging into 30 amp service.

Now if you are talking about a power protection device instead of an EMS, then best practice is Shore only unless of course if you are going to install the combination power protection/transfer switch which will obviously cover both.

Clear as mud.
I put mine on the power post side thinking I wanted to eliminate a single point of failure. In other words, if the EMS failed I could still get power via the generator.
My genset is 12.5 so it will cover whatever I throw at it up to the 50 amp main breaker capacity. Right now the ems covers shore power only. Sounds like that is the right approach. Thanks for chiming in!
