Full Version: 120v air compressor running frequency.

Our 120 volt AC air compressor comes on every 15 minutes for about 1 minute. Is this frequency normal? I've used soapy water on all the fittings coming off the compressor into the pressure switch and there is no leak there, had a air leak on the toilet which I repaired what other area should I be looking at, the airbag system?

Your 120V air compressor running every 15 minutes is not normal.

You should look at every air component and every air fitting.  My experience is that most air leaks will be found without getting under the coach.  A good starting point is the basement compartment where your compressor is and then work your way around the coach.  Using the right tools will assist you in finding your air leaks.

The shotgun method of looking for air leaks does not work.  Be organized in your search and take notes.  You may want to do more reading on the subject on this forum.

Thank you Steve, I'll start tracing this out when I get home tomorrow or the next day possibly. Sounds like our coaches are pretty close to the same, I might lean on you for a few questions on pneumatic line location.
Lots of threads on here about finding air leaks. Look those up using the search engine.

Also a series of videos made by some guy on how the air system works.

I've been working on fixing small leaks on the fitting but found a good size leak on the ram seal that opens and closes the generator compartment. We went to Newell yesterday and picked up a new seal for the salon slide out and the parts guy told me the rams are getting hard to come by.
When you remove the ram, carefully dimension the length, diameter, and mounting hole diameter. We can find a suitable pneumatic replacement and list the part number and source on the forum.

After all that is one of the primary purposes of the forum. Generate searchable knowledge on how to keep the old girls on the road.
Jack, is the seal something that can be done DIY, without removing the galley slide-out? I had imagined something more daunting!

On the topic of the pneumatic ram -- In addition to helping you source the pneumatic ram apparatus, we could also find suitable electric linear actuators. We fabricated an actuated bed that folds down from the ceiling in our Leisure Travel Class-B; it's a great time to do things like this because Internet resources make it so much easier to access a great range of capacities and quality-levels (by IP-spec, etc).
I was told the rams were hard to come by, so they put a shutoff for the air to mine and would shut it off when not driving. No more leak!
