We had the pedestal power side transfer switch burn and we replaced it with a new Cutler/Hammer 60 amp contactor.  The new one will not automatically engage without help.  Once engaged everything appears to be working properly.  Could the new contactor be faulty or could there be something going on with the coach wiring that would cause it not to engage?

Also, when we have the breakers off to the front AC the lights and gauges to the voltage meters do not work. When we turn the breakers on they work. Why would that be?
Hmmm, going to the concept of what did I touch, the reason for the contactor not engaging could be how the replacement contactor was wired. Take a good look at the wiring right at the contactor.

The lights and AC meters are wired into the house panel at the rear of the coach. If you open that panel, you can probably answer the mystery.
As usual , Richard has put down bread crumbs for you too follow. He is probably spot on (as usual). The coil on the side of the contactor that is connecting you to street power needs an input to tell it to energize when street power is available. Keep looking for the one wire that is different on your new contactor, from what you see on your old contactor. It will probable be 12 0r 14 gauge.  If you are totally confused, an industrial electrician will solve your problem in a flash. Not a good term to use. Sad

What I meant to say is that the Voltage meters and lights do not register if the front air conditioner is not wired into the circuit. Why would that be?
That one of the two circuit legs where the meters are getting their voltage on my coach.
Does anyone have a schematic for the transfer switch on a 1997 Newell Coach?
If it happens to be a Todd Model PS275 I may be able to help.

I just replaced the transfer switch in my 2001. I followed the schematics on the switch for generator in, shore power in, and coach power out.
The Newell difference is there were two additional circuits, each protected by an inline fuse.
Gen: input L2 protected with a fuse and neutral.
Shore Power: input L1 protected with a fuse and neutral.
I suspect the Generator side powered the generator light over the drivers seat and I'm not sure what the Shore Input side powered. What I distinctly remember is they were on L2 and L1 (opposite of eachother).
At my fuse panel there are some inductors around some 120v lines. I seem to remember in a thread here that the meters pick up the signal(s) from here.
If this helps......I am taking out my transfer switch and snapped a few pics of the fully functional 1998 wiring....
