I am looking for a voltage regulator for my 12.5 KW gene.
Last time I bought one 4 yrs ago they were $130. and now they are $460.
Just wondering if anyone knows of a place that has them cheaper. Google search shows only one other source at the same price. Talk about inflation. I have aprox 700 hrs on the current regulator.
Problem: measuring 75 volts each leg at generator.
I have been through 3 regulators in the past 6 years wonder why!

Brad
Have you called Newell and talked to Chuck Clark? Sometimes Newell has hard to find parts cheaper than others because they bought them a long time ago.

Not sure what is causing the issues with the voltage regulator. I have over 3600 hrs on my Kohler 12.5KW genset and it appears to be the original voltage regulator. I have put about 800 hours on mine during the past 6 years with so far (knock on wood) nothing but oil and filters (oil, air and fuel).
Talked to Chuck. He can only give me an 800 number to Kohler and Kohler will then direct you to someone in your area.
I will try a company in Massachusetts tomorrow.

The Part# is in the title. 228602.

Place in Massachusetts was $10 higher
That is one expensive regulator. I looked as well and didn't find it any cheaper either. I have not heard of anyone blowing so many of them. You might consider talk in to Kohler as to what the think could me causing it. Tom
Hey Brad, maybe post this in the Wanderlodge forum I think a lot of Bluebirds of your vintage have the same genset. They may have a solution and source for the regulator. Good luck.
I am wondering what may cause the failure! I am measuring 75 volts at the generator. Was 65 volts last time according to my notes. Any thoughts from the electrical gurus?
Brad, do you have the Kohler manual?
I have a copy of the manual and troubleshooting guide, also the Yanmar manual. These are from the Bluebird site but should still be relevant. If you want I can upload them in the files section.
Forest, I do have a manual but no help to the problem. I will try and problem solve with Kohler direct.
Meanwhile Forest I took your advise and looked on the bluebird site and found a guy that had a web site for parts in Pennsylvania, they had 6 regulators in stock for the same price $461. but are closer than Kansas and they look like a good place for parts for generators so I am adding their web site.

Thanks for your input Forest.
